Veteran health system leader brings decades of experience using technology to improve performance across complex healthcare organizations.
Boston, Massachusetts – 1 September 2026 - Proximie, the global surgical intelligence platform for the operating room (OR), today announces the appointment of Richard J. Liekweg as Board Advisor, reflecting the Company’s commitment to building perioperative AI infrastructure for the realities of modern-day hospital operations in the United States.
The appointment comes as Proximie accelerates its growth across the U.S., including its most recent collaboration with UC San Diego Health and NVIDIA across 44 operating rooms, announced earlier this summer. Liekweg’s experience leading complex health systems will support the Company as it scales real-time surgical intelligence across the country, turning what actually happens in the OR into clear next steps for the teams delivering care.
Liekweg brings decades of executive-level experience at leading health systems, translating ambitious strategies into scalable operating models for large, complex hospital networks. He most recently served as CEO of BJC Health, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare organizations in the United States. During his tenure, Liekweg led the integration with Kansas City-based Saint Luke's Health System, creating a single, integrated health system with 48,000 employees, 24 hospitals and hundreds of clinics. Having retired from BJC in October 2025, Liekweg’s operational experience and expertise will help Proximie align its technology with the clinical, operational, and financial priorities hospital leaders manage every day, as the Company continues its expansion.
Proximie's U.S. work also includes a collaboration with NVIDIA on Project Rheo, advancing intelligent ORs through AI, surgical data and next-generation healthcare robotics, and a recent partnership with IRCAD North America, the surgical training and education center.
Dr Nadine Hachach-Haram FRCS, BEM - Founder and CEO of Proximie, said:
“The OR is brilliant and broken at the same time. Everything Proximie has built exists to close that gap. Rich has run some of the most complex health systems in the country, and he knows what earns a place in a hospital and what quietly gets switched off. With our U.S. footprint on track to triple this year, his judgment will help us bring surgical intelligence to more clinical and executive teams, so more patients can be treated sooner with the rooms and staff they already have.”
Richard J. Liekweg added:
“The OR is the most expensive room in a hospital, and the least visible. Proximie sees the whole of it, the procedure and the running of the room, in real time. That is what unlocks the potential of the teams and the devices surgery relies on. I know how hard it is for a health system to embed a progressive technology like Proximie and have it deliver, day in and day out. I joined the team specifically to help with this work.”
